GODFATHER PROJECT

Restoring Dignity. Providing Fatherhood. Changing Lives.

The Godfather Project is a transformative initiative designed to support young single mothers in Ghana whose partners have abandoned them or refused responsibility. The project assumes full fatherly responsibilities for the child—providing food, healthcare, clothing, and education—while the child remains in the care of the mother.

The Challenge

  • 10.9% of girls aged 15–19 in Ghana have had a child.
  • Approximately 30% of households are single-parent homes.
  • Ghana lacks a formal child support system to hold fathers accountable.

Many young mothers are left to carry the full burden of raising children alone, limiting their ability to pursue education, employment, and personal growth.

Our Solution

  • Provide full financial and parental support for children
  • Legally adopt the child while maintaining maternal custody
  • Support education from daycare to university
  • Provide healthcare, feeding, and clothing
  • Allow biological fathers to reclaim responsibility under strict conditions (including reimbursement and compensation)

Objectives

  • Provide a consistent and responsible father figure.
  • Reduce the burden on young single mothers.
  • Enable mothers to focus on personal and professional growth.
  • Promote accountability among biological fathers.

Expected Impacts

  • Improved health and educational outcomes for children.
  • Reduced stress and financial burden on mothers.
  • A scalable model for addressing child support gaps in Ghana.
